On Saturday, June 20, 2015, The McCourty twins hosted the 3rd Annual Tackle Sickle Cell 5K Run/Walk in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. This event is the major fundraising component of the Tackle Sickle Cell Campaign.
The twins took this opportunity to combine their charitable efforts with their competitive spirit. They each set up their own fund raising team for the 5K to see which brother can raise more money for the Tackle Sickle Cell Campaign…Team J-Mac vs Team D-Mac!
The winner is the brother whose 5K Team raised more money…The loser agreed to purchase a billboard in their home football city (New England or Tennessee) publicly announcing their defeat!
Well the results came in and Jason McCourty was declared the Winner! As of December 18th at 5pm, this billboard is up just outside of Gillette Stadium, with Devin announcing his defeat (while still getting a shot in on his twin brother!)
The Tackle Sickle Cell Campaign is a partnership between The McCourty Twins and Embrace Kids Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, assists families whose children have sickle cell. Their goal is to address and support spiritual, emotional and financial issues of the kids and their families. All programs and services are free to families and include emergency financial assistance, individualized tutoring, counseling, and inspirational events and holiday parties.
The proceeds from the Tackle Sickle Cell 5K Run/Walk will be used exclusively to provide college scholarships, emergency financial assistance and educational programming/seminars to families whose children have sickle cell.
